Star items in our next sale | August 2013 Auction

We are very proud to include an outstanding collection of rare historic English gold and silver coins in their Two Day Specialist Auction Sale on 20th & 21st August.

One of the star lots is an Oliver Cromwell gold Broad of twenty shillings, dated 1656, lot 328. This was the first gold coin produced by the new machine made process with a milled edge. Previously coins were often reduced in size and value by clipping the edges for the precious metal. Only a very small number of the Cromwell gold coins were produced. A F Brock expect this coin to achieve between £6,000 and £10,000. Click HERE to read our full post about this.

The August sale also features medieval gold coins, including an Edward III half noble , Henry VIII Crown of the Double Rose and a half Sovereign, James I Laurel and Unite. The collection also comprises a superb example of a Charles I Unite. There is a silver Testoon produced towards the end of Henry VIII’s reign in very debased silver, this earned Henry VIII the nickname of “Old Coppernose”.

The sale also features gold Guineas from Charles II to George III and most dates of gold Sovereigns issued after the great re-coinage of 1816 to the present day. Earlier silver Crowns in the sale include Elizabeth I and three examples of the ornate Gothic portrait Proof Crowns of Queen Victoria, including one struck in pure silver of which only a few are known to exist. Other star items include proof £5 and £2 gold coins of 1826 and an immaculate proof gold £5 of 1887.
